's cincinnati. it shows a 6,000 vote lead for romney right now. we haven't included those in the official numbers yet. they haven't been reported to the republican party headquarters. by our estimate, romney slightly ahead of santorum in ohio, but still, plenty of time for stuff to happen. we're watching ohio very, very closely. you can see how close it is right there, by our estimate, once again, mitt romney slightly ahead of rick santorum. let's take a look at idaho right now. we have not projected a winner in idaho even though romney is way ahead of everybody else with 12% of the vote in. romney with 78%, 11% for ron paul, 8% for rick santorum, 3% for newt gingrich. let's go to john king and talk ability ohio. the numbers show santorum slightly ahead, but for viewers just tuning in, we say this, and we say it boldly, and we say it exclusively. romney is really slightly ahead of rick santorum. >> by about 3,000 votes by our count because we're going to show you the numbers here. this is the official count, 78% from hamilton county shows romney with a big lead. we have from dana bash mor

and vermont. although, mitt romney is significantly ahead according to the exit polls in both of the states. we want to get more information in both of the states before we make a formal projection, but right now, we can't make that. mitt romney though significant ahead in both virginia and vermont. standby, and we will be able to make a projection at some point. i want to go to mitt romney's headquarters in -- newt gingrich's headquarters in georgia, and some of them have not realized we have made a call. they are dancing there, and they will be fully excited when they know what is going on. let's share the exit poll information on the three states that have closed right now and put them up on the wall over he here. the georgia exit poll number, and here it will explain why we were able to make the projection that newt gingrich is the winner in his home state of georgia. take a look at this. according to the exit poll, e he got 45%, and nearly half of the republicans who voted in the primary in georgia. 26% for mitt romney, and 20% for rick santorum. only 8% for ron paul. a significant win

's a messaging issue that the candidates and their campaigns have to deal with. put it this way. if romney had been selected the nominee back in february or early february or mid-february, would that have precluded his -- the words leaving his mouth about, well, you know, i really don't care for the poor. the very poor. what does that have to do with how long the process is? so i think a lot of campaigns want to jump on the process because their candidates don't know how to keep their mouth shut about -- without saying something that causes them angst. you can't blame the process for that. that is -- that's more of an ability to, again, stay on the message. the economic message. again, that would have nothing to do with rick santorum's fakeoff on social issues and nor would it have anything to do with the rush limbaugh controversy because i would submit to you that if romney were the nomny, he'd be in a much tougher spot given what rush limbaugh just said with the cameras coming to him every day. now the cameras can at least go to three or four different other people and get a sound bite from

on a scale all of romney's ad money hasn't achieved because ideas matter. and the threat to principles matter. the reagan tradition of visionary conservatism is based on proverb skptz deep belief that without vision, the people perish. i believe we need a visionary leader prepared to talk about a dramatic better future with dramatically more jobs, dramatically more energy and a safer, stronger america. i think that is the key to winning this fall. not all of this pet petty bologna but big choices. and as i went around both states talking about $2.50 gasoline and having folks saying that that is not possible, then, finally on saturday, in the "wall street journal" there is a piece entitled newt gingrich is right about gasoline. you walk through step by step why it was possible. and then, the fact is that it is very possible. and then, yesterday steven moore reported numbers are so amazing and the fact that i want to talk about substance is what makes this different from other campaign skptz reason we're going to go to tampa. we need at a time of great problems great solutions and great solutio

close to call. also a three-way race, 6% in with the vote in in mississippi, mitt romney and rick santorum 32%, newt gingrich at 29%. ron paul, fourth place with 6% of the vote. on to alabama, nbc news is declaring the alabama primary at this point too close to call. right now with only 1% of the vote in in alabama, rick santorum with 33%, mitt romney 32%, newt gingrich 27%, ron paul in fourth place with 6%. both of these races in alabama and mississippi not only too close to call but described as three-way races at this point. we're watching the numbers very closely as they come in, don't extrapolate too much from the very small percent of the vote that is in now. take those nbc characterizations of the race seriously but basically we'll watch throughout the night as the numbers come in. whether or not we are talking about the races at any moment right here at the bottom part of the screen you can watch as the percentage of the vote rises and more clarity about these races throughout the hour. >>> while we don't know the winners yet tonight, we do know from the exit polling who t

ago. nbc news is declaring that mitt romney has won the state of illinois. mitt romney is projected winner in that state. latest results are 19% in mitt romney with 54% of the vote. rick santorum 28% of the vote. only 19% in right now. this is enough to project mr. romney as the winner. we'll be watching the percentages and the rankings of the other candidates as the percent of the vote increases. this is exciting. this is election night. republicans of the great state of illinois making big decision about whether to punch their ballot for newt gingrich or rick santorum or mitt romney. that's not the way it's worked at all. have you seen the ballot? have you seen what the ballot looks like that republicans were using today in illinois? it's different in every county but this is representative. let's put up the macon county ballot. if you're going vote in illinois, if you want mitt romney to be president, you can i understand indicate that mitt romney is your preference for president of the united states right here on this part of the ballot. whether or not you do that, doesn't reall
